Birmingham Bulls look to capitalise on NFL popularity
Birmingham Bulls – the UK’s oldest American Football team – have joined the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce as part of ambitious plans to grow the popularity of the sport across the city.
Since forming in 1983, the Bulls have won four national championships, competed in European competition and produced a host of Great Britain internationals.
The club, who play their home games at Kings Norton Rugby Club, currently compete in Division One of the British American Football Association (BAFA) league system and have ambitions to reach the Premier division.
The Bulls also attract young talent as part of the Birmingham Academy of American Football, which operates the U19 Birmingham Lions team, as well as an U16 contact side and U11 and U14 flag football non-contact teams.
Heading into their 43rd season in 2025, the Bulls are set to welcome more than 50 potential new recruits who are hoping to earn a place on the roster.
Chairman Luke Harris says the club is looking to capitalise on the growing popularity of the NFL in the UK.
He said: “For 2025 we have a new sense of purpose. After establishing ourselves in the middle tier of the league system for the past three years, it's time to take a step forward.
“Through our media team and the coaching staff, who have turned training into something fun and engaging, we are currently looking at 50-plus new recruits visiting over the offseason to stake a claim for a place on the team.
“Whereas other clubs are struggling for recruitment, we have thrived this winter.
“As the NFL games in London continue to sell out and the game of American Football is more accessible than ever, come and give us a watch during the 2025 season.
“We feel we have something special brewing. If you want to be a part of it, get in touch and come and ‘Join The Herd!’”
