The Asian Business Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) are inviting women from its membership to join the launch of a three-series network, designed exclusively for women.

The platform is designed to hear from the participants about support required to excel in their career including innovation funding.

Happening on Wednesday, 6 November from 12 to 2pm at the Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre, the network is ideal for women in employment and SME owners who don't often get the career support needed, despite contributing significantly to the local and regional economies.

Supported by the DIATOMIC project – CATAPULT Connected Places, the launch event will feature an opportunity to network with likeminded women and hear from a diverse set of speakers including Amber Sandhu, Barinder Sumon, and Rabina Haque about the highs and lows as Asian women in their industries.

Amber is one of the most exciting and talented upcoming broadcasters from the Midlands.

Having started her career at the BBC as an intern, she went on to present for BBC Radio WM, BBC Sport, 5Live, Cricket and Midlands Today.

Her TV breakthrough came in 2022 during the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she was the lead reporter for Midlands Today.

Her two loves are football and cricket, and Amber has reported and presented across a number of tournaments such as The Hundred, Women's Ashes and WSL games.

She's a huge advocate of equality, diversity and championing and empowering women through sport. Being a freelance radio and TV broadcaster, Amber regularly reports across Premier League football for Sky Sports News, attending press conferences, working on news stories and conducting sit down interviews with players and managers.

Barinder Sumon is a business development manager with over eight years of experience in the hospitality industry, coupled with a solid foundation in healthcare, particularly in dementia care.

Barinder's career has been shaped by a passion for delivering exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and strategic growth. With a unique blend of hospitality expertise and in-depth knowledge of healthcare needs, she excels at creating innovative solutions that cater to both commercial and care-based environments.

Barinder's background in dementia care has given her a deep understanding of the importance of empathy, tailored services, and attention to detail—skills that she seamlessly applies to her work in hospitality.

Throughout her career, she has successfully built partnerships, developed new business opportunities, and implemented strategies that drive sustainable growth.

Rabina Haque is a probation officer, independent risk assessor and trauma-informed trainer, and an awarded-winning author.

Rabina has extensive experience in the Criminal justice system and Human Resources. She has devised three robust programmes in women and mental health, substance misuse and raising awareness of domestic abuse in a family setting.

Rabina’s passion is to support women who have suffered trauma in their lives as well as empower them.

The event will be led by ABCC vice president Sapreena Kumari (pictured).

She said: “This is a series of three events aimed at female ABCC members to support them with their professional development, build their network and grow their business and entrepreneurial skills.

“The purpose in creating these events is for Asian women to foster and build a community and gain valuable business skills in an environment that is specifically for like-minded businesswomen.

“I am thrilled to be leading this on behalf of the ABCC.”
