Alice Kinder- Greater BYPY for Legal 2023
Here to talk through winning the Greater BYPY for Legal award 2023 is Alice Kinder.
What is your name, and what is your role and your place of work?
My name is Alice Kinder. I am a senior associate at Bexley Beaumont specialising in employment law and the President of the Birmingham Law Society.
Were you nominated by someone else for an award, or did you nominate yourself, and why?
I was initially encouraged to apply for the award by my partner Trystan and my mentor Ian, who have both been fantastic sources of support to me during my career. If there was one piece of advice I would give, it is that the more opportunities you take, the more opportunities you will make.
How did you find the application and interview process?
The application and interview processes were a very valuable experience. They allowed me to reflect on my career and personal growth, articulate my vision, and acknowledge those who have contributed to my journey. I greatly enjoyed meeting the judges, learning about their backgrounds and sharing the principles and aspirations that guide my work.
How did it feel to win your award?
I was delighted to win the Greater Birmingham Legal Young Professional of the Year Award. It was fantastic to see talent in so many different areas across our city being recognised and celebrated. I won the award a week before I took office as the youngest President of the Birmingham Law Society in over 200 years and the experience certainly served as motivation for my next steps.
What impact did winning your award have on your career?
Winning the award has had a very positive impact on my career development. It has increased my visibility within the Birmingham business community and encouraged me to have confidence in my goals. As a result of winning the award, I have had further opportunities to build my network, collaborate with others and take up new speaking engagements.
What advice would you give to those applying for the Greater Birmingham Young Professional of the Year Awards 2024?
My advice is simple – go for it and be yourself. Taking the step to apply can feel daunting, but it is a powerful way to reflect on your achievements and contributions. Embrace the opportunity to share your story and what makes you unique. We all have something different to contribute and the diversity of experiences and perspectives is what makes each applicant stand out. I would therefore encourage you all to take the chance to celebrate your journey and the impact you have made. Sometimes taking that leap and putting yourself out there can open doors that you may have never considered.
