A development programme designed to boost start-ups and small businesses has been launched by Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce today.

Applications are being received to join the Chamber 's new Start-up and Small Business Academy.

The Academy aims to support the growth of start-up and small businesses by providing workshops, support and accesses to Greater Birmingham business experts from key sectors.

The programme features six half-day sessions at Birmingham City University 's STEAMhouse, with expert speakers providing insights that can help small businesses save time and money.

Leaders from Elite Closing Academy, Entec Si, SME Outsourcing, Curium Solutions and Spotty Dog Communications will be speaking at the sessions.

Business owners who graduate from the Academy will have the chance to be selected for a two-hour one-to-one mentoring session with one of the experts.

The Academy is ideal for start-up or small business owners who are:

  • Looking for insights from experts on challenging areas that could be holding them back
  • Needing a refresher on key business basics
  • Looking to create a structure for growth
  • Looking to benefit from the support and accountability of their peers

Henrietta Brealey, chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said: “At the Chamber, we want to use our network to connect our small business members to the highest quality advice, insight and support to help them on their journeys.

“We are delighted to launch our Start-Up and Small Business Academy, ensuring our members have free access to the expertise that can help them best develop their businesses.

“Small businesses are the heart of our economy and make up the overwhelming majority of businesses in the UK.

“They are entrepreneurial, agile and in many cases, have huge potential to grow. ”

Start-up and small businesses can apply now to join the Academy.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 27 February.

Successful applicants will be informed by Thursday 2 March, with the first session then taking place on Friday 10 March.
