Academy open evening hailed a success
WMG Academy for Young Engineers have announced their recent Open Evening was a resounding success, bringing together over 500 guests to learn more about their innovative approach to education, hands-on learning, and the pathways they create for young people to enter thriving careers.
This year’s Open Evening provided an insight into the Academy’s values and achievements, industry standard specialist equipment and impressive destinations ( seven times the national average of Apprenticeships secured in 2024).
The WMG Trust partners and stakeholders included Alumni from ten companies, Governors, Edu-Caterers and Business Partner representation from National Grid, JLR, Arup, Arcadis, RAF, University of Warwick, WMG and the Solihull Chamber of Commerce.
WMG Academy’s commitment to blending education with career readiness was highlighted particularly where industry partners showcased the direct employment, apprenticeship and university pathways available to students.
Their alumni, now leaders in fields like engineering, business, and technology, were central to the evening, sharing their journeys and underscoring the value of a WMG education. As role models and mentors, their alumni network not only highlights the Academy’s impact but also offers current students guidance and real-world insights, opening doors to fulfilling and impactful careers.
WMG Academy Solihull works with many business partners to help contextualise learning and bring the curriculum to life whether through interactive workshops, guest speaker events, site visits, projects, competitions, enrichment activities or mentorship programs.
Stewart Tait, CEO WMG Academy Trust, said: "The recent Open Evening at WMG Academy Solihull was a fantastic opportunity for staff to showcase the impressive, cutting edge and industry standard equipment that dovetail into our specialist courses that help secure students such impressive destinations. Alongside tours of the building and facilities, visitors had the opportunity to engage with an extensive range of our business partners and Alumni who supported the event. This year we welcomed more visitors than ever before and we are proud to be the academy of choice for students in North Solihull seeking a STEM focussed or specialist vocational/technical pathway that can lead to apprenticeship and university pathways. Last year, students at the academy secured seven times the national average of apprenticeships for school age leavers along with a wide variety of distinguished university courses."
The Academy is committed to expanding partnerships, welcoming new students, and strengthening connections with their alumni network. They are hoping to foster more opportunities for students by expanding the range of businesses they work with in 2024/25 particularly by connecting more with Chamber members. For those interested in learning more, they invite you to join them at future events, collaborate with them, and be part of their journey to empower the next generation of skilled professionals and innovators.
