‘Sportier’ new Audi A3 revealed
This is the new-look Audi A3 - and the premium German manufacturer says it’s ‘sportier’ and ‘more comfortable’ than ever before.
Order books on the facelifted A3 will open in April 2024, and both the A3 Sportback and the A3 Saloon have been treated to makeover.
So, what’s new?
Looks-wise, there’s a new front grille that’s flatter and wider than before, as well as a more aggressive rear end complete with revised bumper and diffuser.
Audi says the A3’s new clothes are partly borrowed from the soon-to-be-revealed new Audi RS 3 and emphasise the car’s ‘dynamic look’.
There are new digital daytime running lights, with a choice of four configurations selectable from the interior touchscreen.
The cabin has also been ‘significantly sharpened’, with new interior lighting, shifter design, air vents and decorative fabric inlays.
As standard, you can also expect a 10.1-inch touchscreen, Audi’s ‘virtual cockpit plus’ - ie, the customisable display behind the steering wheel - and wireless phone charging. You also get two USB‑C charging ports in the front, and two in the rear.
And you can also enjoy something that Audi calls ‘functions on demand’ via the fully connected infotainment system. Fancy adding adaptive cruise control to your car for a month in anticipation of a big family holiday? You now can, and you can also add high-beam assist for one month, six months, one year, three years, or permanently.
When it comes to other driver assistance and safety features, collision avoidance and turn assist, and lane departure warning are fitted to the A3 as standard.
Adaptive cruise assist is available via the aforementioned ‘functions on demand’ system or as part of the optional Technology Pack in the UK. And that clever cruise also now includes assisted lane change function, which takes over acceleration, braking, and steering for you at speeds of up to 130 mph.
When the latest A3 becomes available next month, it’ll initially be offered with two powertrains.
The 35 TFSI with a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine has an output of 148 bhp and is offered with a seven-speed S tronic auto gearbox at launch.
Meanwhile the 35 TDI 2.0-litre diesel also has an output of 148 bhp, and also gets the S tronic box.
An updated plug-in hybrid model - currently called the ‘TFSI e’ - will be added to the line-up at the end of 2024.
