"There are so many benefits to being a member of the Chamber. They give you a wide access to a network of local businesses.

"Being a patron of the GBCC allows us access to all the members, helping us raise not only the profile of our activity to these organisations but also the profile of the opportunities we are creating for people and businesses across the West Midlands."

Shilpi Akbar - Head of Stakeholders and Communities | Head of Skills, Employment and Education

Working with the Chamber

With our role being to deliver HS2 in the West Midlands, it’s essential that we work with the people and organisations impacted by our works. The Chamber's membership covers the region and surrounding towns and villages that we are working in. Being a Patron of the GBCC allows us access to all the members, helping us raise not only the profile of our activity to these organisations but also the profile of the opportunities we are creating for people and businesses across the West Midlands, including the legacy we’re working hard to leave behind.

What has been the impact to your business?

I see the Chamber as a very valuable extension to our own team, whether that is supporting us with market insights or supporting our various marketing activities. As a Patron, we have access to monthly events with great speakers who both challenge and inform our thinking, as these events help to build trusted relationships with other members.

The Chamber is willing to be open to and collaborate on new ideas. We have spoken at a number of Patron lunches on areas that we have specific expertise in, such as as Leadership and behavioural change. Where we have collaborated on campaigns, such as 'Growth Through People', we have worked together on sharing new ideas, such as the 4-day week movement. It is the flexibility and openness to new ideas that really stands out for me.

How has the Chamber supported your business goals?

We are regularly invited to Patron lunches which gives us the opportunity for roundtable discussions with other patrons. We have attended the Business Expo and were given a slot on a panel to talk about our work in the region. The Chamber regularly feature us in their emails and the ChamberLink magazine, which gives us reach across the whole membership.

Henrietta, the CEO, has been very supportive of us, even attending one of our colleague conferences as a speaker to discuss the local business/economic environment.

Working with the Chamber has led to requests from other members to visit our sites, including a visit from the Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce which was an opportunity to talk about the positive impact BBV is having through the socio-economic benefits the project will bring across the West Midlands.
