The future of Greater Birmingham’s economy depends on a skilled and adaptable workforce and having the right structures in place to support skills development is key for retaining local talent and supporting business growth. The Business Commission West Midlands found that 75% of businesses see stronger employer-education links as essential. Yet recent data from the Greater Birmingham Quarterly Business Report survey shows that nearly 40% of firms facing recruitment challenges say candidates don’t have the right skills for the role.

Responding to the need to convene meaningful dialogue about skills gaps within our region, the theme of the Q1 Quarterly Business Report launch event is ‘Bridging the Skills Gap in Greater Birmingham’. We will be joined by local government policy makers and business leaders to discuss the direction of skills policy and support in the region and how a business with diverse skills needs is overcoming skills challenges and investing in people development.

In addition to presentations and discussions about skills gaps, delegates will receive a copy of the Q1 Greater Birmingham Quarterly Business Report and see the presentation of the survey results. Join c.60 senior delegates for this insightful event, sponsored by Birmingham City University.
