Chamber Council Elections

What is Chamber Council?

Chamber Council is responsible for steering the work of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce’s Policy team, meeting on a quarterly basis to discuss the latest national and regional political developments and to engage in constructive dialogue regarding key Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce’s campaigns.

There are currently 24 members on Chamber Council.

Who sits on Chamber Council?

Chamber Council membership consists of representatives from five geographic divisions (Burton and District; Cannock Chase; Lichfield and Tamworth; Solihull; and Royal Sutton Coldfield) and four themed chambers (Asian Business; Future Faces; Transatlantic; and Global), elected representatives (members of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce), and Board-appointed representatives.

The role of a Chamber Council member:
  • To attend and engage in constructive dialogue at quarterly Chamber Council meetings
  • To promote the work of the Policy team through networks and via social media, including sharing Policy research, campaigns and briefing papers
  • To attend Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce events, in particular Policy-led events
  • To share feedback from fellow Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce members, clients and other business contacts with the Policy team, both at Chamber Council meetings and via email 
  • To proactively engage with Chamber Council members and Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce staff on policy areas of interest
  • To act as an ambassador for Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce policy and campaigning activities
  • To raise the profile of Chamber Council amongst the Greater Birmingham business community
Eligibility to Apply

This year, elections will be held to fill 11 spaces on Chamber Council. Applicants must meet the below eligibility criteria:

1.      Applicants must be a member of the Birmingham division of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. Members of other divisions may not apply as they are represented by their Presidents or other members of their Executive Committee.

2.    New applicants must be nominated by two eligible members of the Birmingham division of the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. This is not a requirement for current members of the Council.

If you are a new application for the Chamber council, you will need to add in your nominating members. No new applications will be accepted without this.

If you are already a member of the Council and are seeking re-election, you do not need to add in your nominating members.
